A suburb that aged together
Cherrybrook was largely developed in stages through the 1980s and 1990s, so its housing is unusually consistent. Streets of four- and five-bedroom double-storey brick homes, on sensibly sized blocks, many still owned by the families who bought them new or their second owners.
That consistency means the bathrooms tend to share the same issues at the same stage of life.
What we usually find
Upstairs main bathroom. A built-in bath, a separate shower with a framed screen, a vanity with a cultured-marble top, and wall tiles with a feature border. Most are structurally sound but the shower seals are getting tired.
Master ensuite. A narrow room with a shower cubicle and single basin. The room couples most want to upgrade.
Downstairs powder room or toilet. Often next to the laundry, used by everyone coming in from the backyard.
Early 1980s homes. Where a house was built or renovated before about 1990, wet-area sheeting is tested for asbestos before demolition.
The upgrade path families take
Cherrybrook households with teenagers or young adults at home tend to prioritise the upstairs main bathroom. Couples whose children have moved out more often start with the ensuite and later bring the main bathroom in line.
Common changes:
- Bath and shower combined into a larger wet zone with a freestanding bath behind glass.
- Double vanity in the main bathroom for siblings getting ready at the same time.
- Ensuite widened into the walk-in robe.

Living through it
Because most Cherrybrook homes have at least two showers, families usually stay home during the renovation. Expect a skip or cage in the driveway, trades starting around 7am on weekdays, and one to two very noisy demolition days.

Townhouses and apartments close to Cherrybrook station are newer and may be covered by strata rules and builder's warranties. Strata approval should be sorted before booking any bathroom work.
